[NEW] Unbreakable (City Lights Series, #2) | unbreakable series – Pickpeup

unbreakable series: คุณกำลังดูกระทู้

[ Not between the hero and heroine, BUT the heroine DOES have a fiancee whom she cheats on with the hero of the story. I marked this story as safe with exception for those of you who are not okay with this kind of storyline, but I am all for it as long as the story makes sense and with the premise of this story, I have to say it does and it’s understandable. (hide spoiler)

Triggers:
Cheating:

Love triangle:

[ Technically it is, even though you know how the story will end. I for one, hate love triangles and this was not a bad one in my eyes (hide spoiler)

Sex with om/ow:

[ No, BUT there is an almost scene between the heroine and her fiancee – but I will explain that later (hide spoiler)

Intimate pasts:

[ The hero revealed to the heroine that when he was younger in high school, he was a normal guy who got around. Then he met his ex GF and mother of his child, she got pregnant and he has been on and off with her ever since. Even though he never loved her, he would do anything for his daughter Callie. So definitely not a manwhore. I believe it has been about 6 months since he has slept with his ex. The heroine also had a healthy sex life in the past, then she met her fiancee, Drew, in college and she has only been with him. (hide spoiler)

OW drama:

[ The hero’s ex is in the background and she DOES get jealous of how nice he is to Alex. She is more so in the background and causes issues with custody. There is one time that she tries to come on to him – literally she strokes his hair and he immediately pushes her away (hide spoiler)

HEA:

[ Yes and it was so very sweet! (hide spoiler)

My review:

Alex Gardener started off her morning like every other day. She awoke from a very sensual dream to being alone in her bed, wishing her fiancee would still be there to quench her cravings. Both her and her fiancee, Drew, were very successful lawyers and that took up much of their personal lives, with not enough left over for love. She put on her “Shark woman” face and went to battle to provide her closing argument and win the case that will make her partner. While the jury was in deliberation, she went about her day. Went to lunch with her stuck up group of friends and then finally went to run an errand at the bank. That is where her live would forever change.

Before I go further with the plot line, I want to point out that up until this point, as the reader, we are already beginning to see that Alex feels as though something is missing from her life. She just doesn’t know what. At this point in her life she is about to have everything she ever dreamed of, including marrying a man that has become ingrained in her life the last 6 years.

So while in line at the bank, she meets a VERY attractive man named Cory Bishop. He takes one look at her and is blown away, however, he also takes one look at her and knows that she is way out of his league. She is rich and successful and he is barely holding onto to his life and his daughter. Fate had other plans for these two because on this very day, they were involved in a bank robbery and hostage situation for 3 days.

During these three days, they are drawn to each other. Cory wants to protect everyone, especially Alex, and Alex is just drawn to this man and she can’t explain it. At this point, let me point out that the heroine and hero thought that they were going to die and that’s when it happens. All of that sexual tension between them since the moment they met, their attraction to each other, mutual respect, and bonding during this time caused them to come together when the opportunity presented itself. So even though she knew she would be cheating on Drew, she didn’t think of it like that because she thought she was going to die. It is during this time that we learn all about Cory’s past with his ex GF, who he says he never loved, and his beautiful 7 year old daughter Callie. We learn that his ex is trying to take her away from him and move to Alaska where she has family. He is in the middle of a custody battle, waiting on an upcoming hearing, that is sure to lose now. The whole reason he was at the bank was to get some cash to pay his monthly rent. To hear Cory’s heartbreaking situation and why things happened the way they did, really makes you think that you don’t really know WHY someone is in the situation they are in, until you actually know.

[ His father, whom he always tried to please, and him had a business. After a series of strokes that rendered him in need of total care, Cory was forced to sell their business to someone else in order to put his father in a top of the line nursing home. His ex girlfriend never wanted to have a marriage or relationship with Cory long term because he didn’t provide enough for her and she wanted more. He is forced to work for this damn asshole who doesn’t pay him on time which was why he was so late on his rent to begin with AND being that he missed his rent and knowing his asshole of a landlord, he knew he would no longer have a home if he should make it out of that situation. Poor guy – my heart broke (hide spoiler)

After Alex heard his story, she was drawn to him and it made her realize that she thinks she had it bad – she really had no idea how bad could really get. In the aftermath of the robbery, Cory was hospitalized and Alex tried to move on with her life – with Drew. This is where the reader gets to know more about Drew. He wasn’t a BAD guy per say, but he was seriously an asshole in my eyes. You say you love this girl, but you cannot put her first to work ONE time. And no, he wasn’t cheating on her or anything like that with another woman or man, but with WORK he definitely was IMO. Case in point, the day she is released, she tries to sleep, but only gets a 20 minute nap in before waking up from a nightmare. She goes to find Drew and he is in his home office. He DOES hurry up and hang up with his business partner, BUT he also tells him to give him an hour. So instead of telling the guy that he would call him when he could, he said – “give me an hour.” I mean seriouslY!?!? Your fiancee was just nearly raped and killed! Then as they started having a conversation, he freaking kept looking at his work notes, so she finally gave up and said she was going to lay down. The asshole had the nerve to look RELIEVED!

READ  [NEW] 仮面ライダーガタック - 特撮ゲーム総合まとめ | ガタック ライダー キック - Pickpeup

Now here is the icing on the cake with Drew. Instead of standing automatically wanting to be with her when she goes to the FBI and recounts her tale, he ASKS her “Do you still want me to go?” I mean SERIOUSLY!?!?! THEN

[ She gets home and wants to try to rekindle their romance. She knows she made a mistake with Cory and never would have done it had she known she would have made it out of their alive. She practically throws herself on him in their kitchen. She kisses him and tries to rip his clothes off. He stops her and starts to freak out. He doesn’t have time, he doesn’t want to do it in the KITCHEN! And when she gets on her knees to undo his pants, he says “You know I don’t like that.” The end result of that argument was extreme humiliation for the heroine and Drew says, “Well maybe we can do it when I get home, if you still want to.” For my safety gang friends – that is the one and only scene of intimacy with the heroine and Drew for the whole book. (hide spoiler)

Drew has always told Alex that she should keep her own place and at this point, she was glad she did because she told him that they need to time apart. Now, this wasn’t a break up – just time apart. At this point is when she then hears about Cory’s troubles and comes to the rescue. Part of that rescue ends with her living with Cory. That leads to them getting to know each other more and fall more and more in love. At this point is probably where people would have wished that Alex would have just let Drew go, BUT Drew gets better …

[ After they have sex again, Drew shows up the next day. Even though they were not in a compromised position, he still wasn’t stupid and he has NO CLUE that Cory was even staying there or the situation. He gets Alex to go to breakfast with him to talk about things (and rushes through that as well to get back to WORK) BUT get this crap. He tells her that THIS is why he wants her to have her own place. So that from time to time when he isn’t giving her enough in the bedroom, you can HAVE AFFAIRS!!! OMG!!! Alex is mortified and not only did she wish she never slept with Cory while with Drew, but she just is speechless. So Drew literally doesn’t care because he isn’t a passionate guy. He doesn’t have another woman, nor does he want one. He just wants all of his focus on work. He is literally asexual (hide spoiler)

So the story goes on – things happen and Alex still can’t make up her mind. She ends up really hurting Cory so he ends up giving up on her. That did kind of upset me, but I totally understood because Alex couldn’t make up her damn mind. AND Cory later apologizes to her for giving up on them. He says he has never given up on anything in his life and shouldn’t have given up on them. I was glad that he recognized that. For safety gang:

[ The hero DOES go to his ex to offer to move to Alaska with them both so that he could get away from Alex AND be with his daughter full time. He was even willing to marry his ex if that’s what it took. Basically, he was willing to sacrifice his own happiness, to make his daughter happy. It was either that or lose custody due to the fact that since he moved out of Alex’s rental, he no longer had a place to live. He DOES NOT do anything intimate with this woman and events happen that change the course of the story yet again. (hide spoiler)

I have to say, overall, I really enjoyed this story and I was able to understand where all of the characters were coming from. None of them were perfect and I LOVED Alex’s friend Lilah. I was glad that she had a friend who could call her out on her shit. I was disappointed that Cory did “give up” because I am used to my males being more alpha, however, I understood where he was coming from AND honestly, if the story didn’t unfold the way it did, I just know he wouldn’t have been able to go through with his plans anyway.

“Hey.” He laid a hand on my arm, turning me gently. “The real reason I asked you to come meet my dad, is not for him. But for me. I’d be proud to introduce you to him. Since I sold the business, I don’t get too many opportunities to try to make him proud. Not anymore.”

I swallowed the jagged lump in my throat. “Saving the lives of fifty people seems like a pretty good one to me.”

“That’s too complicated a story to tell,” he said, his dark eyes like brown velvet. “But you…All you have to do is walk into the room.”

I am so glad to have found this author. She will definitely go on my go-to list because I enjoyed both of these stories and none of my triggers are present so I am SO glad. 🙂

M. Night Shyamalan brings together the narratives of two of his standout originals—2000’s Unbreakable, from Touchstone, and 2016’s Split, from Universal—in one explosive, allnew comicbook thriller: Glass.
From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from Split are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya TaylorJoy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.
Joining the allstar cast are Unbreakable’s Spencer Treat Clark and Charlayne Woodard, who reprise their roles as Dunn’s son and Price’s mother, as well as Golden Globe Award winner Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story series).

This riveting culmination of his worldwide blockbusters is produced by Shyamalan and Blumhouse Production’s Jason Blum, who also produced the writer/director’s previous two films for Universal. They produce again with Ashwin Rajan and Marc Bienstock, and Steven Schneider and Kevin Frakes, who executive produce. Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum also serve as executive producers.
A Blinding Edge Pictures and Blumhouse production, Glass will be released by Universal Pictures in North America on January 18, 2019, and by Buena Vista International abroad.
